Obituary of Mary Angelina Giles

Maria Giles, born in Cranbrook BC, on April 13th, 1954, passed away on March 12th, 2024 in Cranbrook BC, at the age of 69, with her family by her side.

Maria was raised in Cranbrook BC, where she married her husband, Gerry, on November 10th, 1973. They welcomed their first son, Christopher, into the world on May 17th, 1976, and their second son, Scott, on September 17th, 1980. While being a mom and wife were her most cherished roles, she also worked in multiple retail jobs and was a co-owner of a few businesses. Maria was passionate about the BC Kidney Foundation, where she spent years volunteering her time on the provincial executive. Maria inherited her mother’s green thumb and loved to garden. She also enjoyed, cooking, sewing, and crafting projects, but most of all she enjoyed caring for her grandchildren.

Maria was predeceased by her parents Angelo and Angelina Corrente. She is survived by her husband Gerry Giles; Son Christopher (Christina) Giles of Creston; Son Scott (Ruth) Giles; granddaughter Angelina; grandson Isaiah; grandson Hayden; daughter Sharla Benson (Corey); granddaughter Ireland; grandson Mitchell; sister-in-law Kelly Asplund of Calgary; best friend Debbie Ozolins; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Rosary and Prayers for Maria will be at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church located at 39-10th Avenue South at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024. Her funeral mass will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, March 21st, 2024, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. The interment will be in Westlawn Cemetery.
